Mr. and Miss Juneteenth Scholarship Award Guidelines

Purpose
-
The Mr. and Miss Juneteenth Scholarship Award aims to celebrate and honor the achievements of young leaders in the community who exemplify the values of education, leadership, and cultural heritage associated with Juneteenth.
Eligibility
-
Age: Applicants must be between the ages of 16 and 21.

Residency: Must be a resident of DC, Maryland, Virginia (the DMV!).

Education: Must be currently enrolled in high school or an accredited institution of higher learning.

Cultural Awareness: Applicants should demonstrate an understanding of the significance of Juneteenth and its impact on the African American community.
Application Process

Application Form: Complete the official application form.

Essays: Submit an essay (500-750 words) addressing the importance of Juneteenth and how you plan to promote its values within your community.

Letters of Recommendation: Provide two letters of recommendation from teachers, community leaders, or mentors who can speak to your character and leadership qualities.

Interview: Selected candidates may be required to participate in an

interview as part of the selection process.
Selection Criteria

Academic Achievement: Review of grades and educational accomplishments.

Community Involvement: Evaluation of volunteer work, leadership roles, and contributions to the community.

Cultural Engagement: Demonstrated knowledge and involvement in activities related to the celebration of Juneteenth and African American culture.

Personal Presentation: Assessment of the applicant’s ability to represent the values of the Mr. and Miss Juneteenth title through public speaking and community engagement.
Award Details
Scholarship Amount: $1,000

Presentation: The winners will be crowned during the Juneteenth celebration event and will receive their scholarship awards at that time.

Responsibilities: The titleholders are expected to promote Juneteenth and participate in community events throughout the year.

All applications must be submitted by 6/1/2025. Late applications will not be considered.
